When Harry Kroll came home from the Second World War, He decided his hometown needed a reliable locksmith company & in 1946, Mr. Kroll opened the original District Lock & Hardware on the 700 Block of 8th St SE where it stayed until the 50s, moving up a block to 505 8th St SE, its home for over 50 years. Over that time District Lock was a DC institution, known for its great selection of tools, keys & the place 1st term Reps were told to call. Encyclopedic knowledge & good old fashioned service were the norm. In the early 90s the company to current owner Steven Harrell. Steve saw the company through the surge of the real estate market & the rediscovery of Washington as a place to live. Unfortunately with the arrival of Home Depot in NE DC, The days of the small Mom & Pop's were numbered. District Lock & Hardware closed its doors in August of 2007. Steve was still determined to provide customers with the best possible service, knowledge and reliability, Opening District Lock the next day!
